Move an Existing Website to CDNShark Hosting

You can set up hosting and upload your site before you switch your domain's nameservers. Visitors keep seeing the old site until the switch, so there's no downtime.

From cPanel

Use the built-in importer: Migrate from cPanel. It brings over files, databases, subdomains and cron jobs in one go.

From any other host

  1. Add the domain to CDNShark (Domains in the portal) and Order a Hosting Account for it.
  2. Download your site's files from the old host, and export its database as a .sql file.
  3. Upload the files into domains/<your-domain>/public_html with SFTP or the File Manager (see Connect with SFTP and Use the File Manager).
  4. Create a MySQL Database and import your .sql file into it (see Connect to Your Database).
  5. Update your site's configuration with the new database name, user and password. The database host is localhost.
  6. Switch your nameservers at your registrar to the ones shown on your domain. See Changing Nameservers to CDNShark.
  7. Back in the hosting panel, click I've switched my nameservers — check now.

After the switch

  • Nameserver changes usually take effect within a few hours, occasionally up to 48.
  • HTTPS is set up automatically once the switch is seen, usually in 5–15 minutes. If it doesn't complete, click Retry HTTPS setup.
Keep your old hosting running until the new site works on its own domain, then cancel it.
