Connect to Your Database

From your website

Use host localhost, port 3306, and the database name, user and password from the Databases tab. That's all most apps need.

From your computer (remote access)

To manage a database with a desktop tool such as HeidiSQL, DBeaver, TablePlus or MySQL Workbench, allow your IP address:

  1. Find your public IP address (search "what is my IP").
  2. When creating the database, choose Specific IP under Remote access and enter that address.
  3. In your tool, connect to the server address shown in the SFTP tab, port 3306, with the database's user and password.
  • Only that one IP address can connect; everything else is blocked by the server's firewall.
  • Remote access is set when the database is created. To use a different IP later, contact support, or create a new database with the new IP and import your data into it.
  • If your home internet changes IP often, use an SFTP-based export instead (below).

Importing a .sql file

  • With remote access: open the .sql file in your desktop tool and run it against the database.
  • Without remote access: during a site move, the easiest route is Migrate from cPanel if you're coming from cPanel. Otherwise upload the file to your account with SFTP and contact support; we'll help you import it.
