Create a MySQL Database
Your hosting uses MariaDB, which is fully MySQL-compatible: WordPress, Laravel, Joomla and any other PHP app that "needs MySQL" work as-is.
Steps
- Open your hosting account → Databases → Add Database.
- Database name: your username and an underscore are added in front automatically. Typing
shopon accountacmecreatesacme_shop. Use lowercase letters, digits and underscores. - Remote access: leave Local only unless you need to connect from your own computer (see Connect to Your Database).
- Click Create Database.
A database user with the same name as the database and a strong password are created for you. Reveal or copy the password from the table.
Settings for your app
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Host | localhost |
| Port | 3306 |
| Database | e.g. acme_shop |
| User | the same, e.g. acme_shop |
| Password | from the Databases tab |
For WordPress, that's DB_HOST, DB_NAME, DB_USER and DB_PASSWORD in wp-config.php.
Changing the password
Click the rotate icon and type ROTATE. The old password stops working immediately, so update your app's config straight after.
Limits
- The number of databases depends on your plan. A one-click WordPress install uses one of them.
- Each database user can have up to 15 connections open at once.
Deleting a database deletes all its data. The nightly backup includes your databases if you need to recover one.
