Migrate from cPanel
Move a whole cPanel account in one go: website files, databases, subdomains and cron jobs.
What's migrated
| Migrated | Not migrated |
|---|---|
| Files of the main domain | Addon domains (add each one separately, see below) |
Databases (renamed to <username>_…) | Email accounts and mail |
| Subdomains, with their DNS | cPanel settings that have no equivalent here |
| Cron jobs |
For WordPress, wp-config.php is updated with the new database name, user and password automatically.
1. Make a Full Backup in cPanel
- In cPanel, open Backup (or Backup Wizard) → Download a Full Account Backup.
- Choose Home Directory as the destination, start it, and wait for the email saying it's done.
- Download the
backup-….tar.gzfile to your computer.
2. Import it
- Order a Hosting Account for the domain if you haven't yet, and wait until it's active.
- Open the hosting account and click Migrate from cPanel at the top.
- Read the warning, click Start migration, and type MIGRATE to confirm.
- Drop the
.tar.gzon the upload box (or click to choose it). Keep the tab open until the upload finishes. - The import runs on its own. It can take several minutes for big sites; you can leave the page.
This is a clean replace. As soon as the upload finishes, everything currently in the hosting account (files, databases, apps, subdomains) is erased and replaced by the backup. Only the primary domain itself is kept. There's no undo, so use a new or empty account.
3. Check the result
When it finishes, the page shows what was restored: files, subdomains, databases ("was old_name" shows each original name) and cron. Status partial means it completed with warnings; read the notes. For example, each addon domain is listed with a reminder to add it separately.
Then check your site, and switch nameservers when you're happy: see Move an Existing Website to CDNShark Hosting.
Tips
- Other apps than WordPress may keep database settings in their own config file. Update them with the new names shown in the result.
- Your server needs free space of about three times the backup's size during the import.
- The import is free.
