Move Existing Email to CDNShark

Switching from another email provider? Plan it so no mail is lost.

1. Prepare

  1. Buy Mailbox Seats for every mailbox you need.
  2. List the addresses you use today, including forwarding addresses. Each one becomes a mailbox or an alias here.

2. Switch

  1. Enable email on the domain (Enable Email on Your CDNShark Domain or Add Email for a Domain Whose DNS Is Elsewhere).
  2. Immediately create the mailboxes and aliases (see Create a Mailbox and Aliases and Forwarding). New mail starts arriving here as soon as the MX records point at CDNShark.
  3. Keep your old account open for a few days: some senders keep delivering to the old servers until DNS caches expire.

3. Bring over your old messages

There's no import tool in the portal yet. The easiest way is through a desktop mail app such as Thunderbird or Outlook:

  1. Add both accounts, the old one and the new CDNShark mailbox, using IMAP.
  2. Wait until the old account has downloaded all folders.
  3. Select the messages or folders in the old account and drag them into the new mailbox.

Have a lot of mailboxes or many gigabytes of mail? Contact support before you switch: we can copy mailboxes server-to-server, keeping folders, read flags and dates.

Check the storage

Each mailbox has the storage size of its plan. Make sure your old mail fits before you copy it.
