Host a Domain Whose DNS Is Managed Elsewhere
Normally your domain uses CDNShark nameservers and everything is set up automatically. If you keep your DNS at another provider (your registrar, Cloudflare DNS, Route 53…), the hosting panel tells you which records to add there.
Steps
- Add the domain to your hosting account as usual (Add an Addon Domain or Subdomain).
- On the domain's row, the panel shows "You manage this domain's DNS. Add these records at your provider, then verify", with a list of records:
- A records for
@(andwww), one per CDN edge IP shown. Add all of them. - A CNAME for
_acme-challenge, pointing at the target shown. This lets us issue the HTTPS certificate for your domain.
- A records for
- Add the records at your DNS provider exactly as shown. If your provider has a proxy or CDN toggle (for example an orange cloud), turn it off for these records.
- Click Verify & activate.
If verification fails
- "… isn't resolving to … yet": the A records aren't visible yet. DNS changes can take a while to spread; wait and try again.
- "The _acme-challenge CNAME … isn't pointing to …": check the name (some providers add your domain automatically, so enter only
_acme-challenge) and the target.
Subdomains follow their parent domain: if the parent's DNS is external, add the subdomain's records at your provider too.
