Restoring a deleted file or an earlier version

Deleting a file in your sync folder removes it from every device — but the contents and history are kept on the server for a while, so it can usually be brought back.

Restoring a deleted file

  1. Open Files in the app.
  2. Click the Deleted filter.
  3. Find the file and click Restore.
  4. Pick which version you want — for a deleted file, the newest one is usually what you are after.

The file reappears in your folder and downloads to your other computers automatically.

Rolling back to an earlier version

For a file that still exists, open Files, click the clock icon on its row, and choose Restore next to the version you want. The restored copy becomes the current one; the version you replaced is still listed.

Before you restore

Do not copy the files back into the folder by hand first. That creates a conflict between your manual copy and the restore, and you will have to resolve it afterwards. Restore first, then check the result.

How far back you can go

A limited number of versions is kept per file, and older ones are removed as newer ones accumulate. A file deleted some time ago is usually still recoverable; a file that has been rewritten hundreds of times since may not be. Sync is not a substitute for CDNShark Backup.
