Sending Limits and Deliverability
Sending limits
To protect everyone's reputation with Gmail, Outlook and other providers, each mailbox can send:
- up to 50 messages per hour, and
- up to 200 messages per day.
Past the limit, your mail app shows an error like 452 4.4.5 Rate limit exceeded. Wait and send again later. Your app may also report Maximum number of messages per session when sending many messages at once; it simply reconnects and continues.
Mailboxes are for person-to-person mail. For newsletters and marketing campaigns, use a dedicated sending service and authorise it for your domain: Send Mail From Other Services With Your Domain.
Landing in the inbox
SPF, DKIM and DMARC are set up for you (see Email DNS Records Explained). To keep your mail out of spam folders:
- Don't remove or edit the mail DNS records.
- Create
postmaster@so DMARC reports have somewhere to go. - Write like a person: avoid all-caps subjects, link shorteners, and messages that are only an image.
- A brand-new domain has no reputation yet. Its first messages are more likely to land in spam; ask recipients to mark them "Not spam" and add you to their contacts.
- Check your setup with our free MX Record Checker and SPF, DKIM & DMARC Checker.
Incoming spam
Our mail servers filter spam before it reaches you. If a message is wrongly treated as spam or a spam message gets through, contact support with the message headers.
