HTTPS and SSL Certificates for Hosted Sites
You don't need to buy or install a certificate. HTTPS is set up automatically for every domain and subdomain on your hosting account.
How it works
- Visitors ↔ CDN: the CDN edge serves your site over HTTPS with a free, automatically renewed certificate.
- CDN ↔ your hosting: the connection between the edge and your hosting server uses a CDNShark origin certificate. This is the Origin SSL badge in the Domains tab, with its expiry date.
Statuses in the Domains tab
| SSL column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Origin SSL + date | All set. |
| securing… | Being set up. Usually takes a minute or two. |
| failed + Retry | Click Retry. If it fails again, contact support. |
Just switched nameservers?
The visitor-facing certificate can only be issued once your domain uses CDNShark nameservers (or, for external DNS, once the _acme-challenge record is in place). After the switch, click I've switched my nameservers — check now. HTTPS usually follows in 5–15 minutes; Retry HTTPS setup starts it again if needed.
WordPress and other apps
Your site sees HTTPS requests as HTTPS, so WordPress won't loop between http and https. Set your site URL to https://. See Run WordPress Behind the CDN.
